In 1969, Penns Best founder, Meredith "Rube" Ruark, saw a need to provide loading services for large carriers, which led to the opening of a terminal in 1973. When the transportation industry underwent deregulation, he took the opportunity to start a transportation company, with the support of local shippers.
Meredith's commitment to the business, to the local area's families, and to the local economy, instilled values still found today at Penns Best. When Meredith retired in 2004, he entrusted his legacy to his team as an employee-owned company. His stellar reputation has been upheld by Penns Best dedicated team.
Penns Best is supporting a local non-profit organization. A message from the organization:
It has been public support that has given us the confidence to move forward on this exciting new opportunity. Without our annual operating support, we could not open our doors; we have no other income stream.
Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen trustees, industries, individuals, foundations and businesses will be asked for pledges of support. Local churches are planning special events to raise funds for the new building. We announced a community wide campaign in July.
Government grants come with strings attached that are often permanent. From the beginning Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has adopted a policy not to apply for or accept government money that might alter its mission.
Yes, often people will chose to give appreciated property to a campaign like this (stock is a great example). Giving appreciated stock provides a double benefit to the donor. The full fair market value of the stock is the income tax deduction, and the donor also avoids paying capital gains taxes. To take advantage of this type of gift YOU MUST TRANSFER THE STOCK. Do not sell the stock and give the money; that would trigger a capital gain on your part. Call Ted Oberg, Financial Advisor, Edward Jones for instructions on transferring stock or other appreciated assets to this building campaign: 570-675-3335.
Not the pledge, but to the extent provided by the law, the actual payments on the pledge are tax deductible in the year they are made.
A separate fund account will be established to receive all gifts and grants for the purchase of the building. This account will be included in the Soup Kitchen's annual, independent financial audit.
The campaign will require a number of volunteers to go out and tell this story to potential donors. The Seven Loaves Soup Kitchen has a wonderful, compassionate story to tell, and it needs people to tell it. This organization has enjoyed tremendous past support from the community we serve, and we are optimistic about the chance for a successful campaign.

Ever wonder just what it takes for your favorite items you consume to get to your home, kitchen table etc? Well, logistics is a big part of it, and you certainly would not see it without a truck driver. So say "thank you" to a professional truck driver who is working hard away from home, and let them know that you appreciate it.
